The Bharat Dal program was launched in July 2023, converting chana stocks from the price stabilisation buffer into Bharat Chana Dal
The Government of India has seen a significant increase in consumer demand for its Bharat Brand food items. So far, 12.35 lakh tonnes of chana dal, 5,663.07 tonnes of moong dal, and 118 tonnes of masur dal have been sold. This initiative was introduced to stabilise prices and ensure affordability and has now been expanded to include additional pulses and staples.
The Bharat Dal program was launched in July 2023, converting chana stocks from the price stabilisation buffer into Bharat Chana Dal. In addition to pulses, the government has also introduced Bharat Atta and Bharat Rice to provide subsidised food grains to consumers. Bharat Atta was launched in November 2023, and Bharat Rice followed in February 2024. During Phase I.
The cumulative sales figures reflect the program’s impact:
– Bharat Chana Dal: 12.35 lakh tonnes
– Bharat Moong Dal: 5,663.07 tonnes
– Bharat Masur Dal: 118 tonnes
– Bharat Atta: 15.20 lakh tonnes in Phase I, 2,952.25 tonnes in Phase II
– Bharat Rice: 14.58 lakh tonnes in Phase I, 3,413.35 tonnes in Phase II
Bharat Brand food products are distributed through a comprehensive network to ensure accessibility for all consumers. Key distribution channels include NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.), Kendriya Bhandar, NCCF (National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Limited), e-commerce platforms, major retail chains, and mobile vans.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and affordability for consumers while stabilising market prices for essential staples.
