Maharashtra exports 22,360 tonnes of pomegranates

The state’s pomegranates are in demand in markets across Europe, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Nepal, and Malaysia

Maharashtra has exported 22,360 tonnes of pomegranates, accounting for 78 per cent of India’s total exports during the last nine months, according to the Agriculture Department. This achievement solidifies Maharashtra’s position as the leading pomegranate exporter in the country.

With 1,15,000 hectares dedicated to pomegranate farming, Maharashtra has benefited from government-led initiatives aimed at boosting export opportunities. The state’s pomegranates are in demand in markets across Europe, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Nepal, and Malaysia.

Despite obstacles like unpredictable weather, farmers have ensured high-quality produce through careful orchard management. Last year, Maharashtra exported 56,407 tons of pomegranates, while this year’s nine-month total of 22,360 tons already reflects strong international interest, especially from European and Gulf nations.

Farmers from states such as Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh have contributed to exports, but Maharashtra leads the pack. Of the 21,830 farmers registered for export in India, an astounding 21,797 are from Maharashtra, underscoring the state’s dominance in the sector.
