The Diet Counselling Cell of the Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana recently held an online diet counselling session focused on diabetes.

A significant number of diabetic patients joined the online session for getting answers to their questions regarding the management of diabetes from a panel of dieticians comprising Dr Shruti Jain, Dhara Jain, RD and Timmy Singla.

Dr Kiran Bains, Professor and Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, explained the importance of awareness programmes to prevent diabetes as it is a lifestyle disorder related to undesirable eating patterns, physical inactivity and stress as major determinants. The disease can be prevented and controlled by dietary and lifestyle modifications, she advised.

Further, the patients were advised to consult the qualified dieticians and stay away from nutrition quacks to prevent complications of diabetes. Due to pandemic situation, the department held the counselling session online this year, however, the patients can receive face to face individual counselling and also body composition analysis done by taking prior appointments.
