Yakult Danone steps into North India

Yakult Danone India, a 50:50 JV between Groupe Danone of France and Yakult Honsha, Japan, announced its expansion in Lucknow and Kanpur, with the launch of Yakult, a globally popular probiotic fermented milk drink. Yakult was launched in India in 2007 and is presently available in major metros and towns.

Speaking on the occasion, Minoru Shimada, Managing Director, Yakult Danone India said, "Yakult was first launched in Japan in 1935 and it has a long history. It is the largest selling probiotic drink globally with more than 30 million people consuming it every day across 30 countries and regions. Lucknow is an important market for us, and we see a great potential for Yakult. Based on our founder's philosophy we want to contribute to the health of people by improving their immunity and intestinal health at an affordable price."

Yakult contains 6.5 billion beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota) in every bottle. This strain of bacteria was discovered by a Japanese scientist, Dr Minoru Shirota way back in 1930, and he used this strain to make a delicious probiotic drink to prevent infections among Japanese society. The beneficial bacteria in Yakult reach our intestine alive and suppress the growth of harmful bacteria, thus improving our health. Daily consumption of Yakult helps to build immunity, and improves intestinal function.

Yakult is manufactured in India at a state of the art HACCP and ISO 9001 certified facility at Sonepat, Haryana, near Delhi. It has a shelf life of 40 days from the date of manufacture when refrigerated. Priced at Rs 55 for a pack of 5 bottles, Yakult is easily available at retail outlets and can be enjoyed by everyone, young or old, as a part of their daily diet.
