Sensient Technologies has bought Canadian ingredients company Mazza Innovation to boost its botanical extraction capabilities.

According to Wisconsin-based Sensient, the addition of the firm is a major step in the evolution of its “seed to shelf” strategy to innovate across the value chain for natural and organic ingredients.

Mazza, which is located in Vancouver, is a specialist in plant extraction technology. Sensient states that the deal will enable it to meet customer demand for pure ingredients in its food and beverage, nutraceutical, and personal care products.

Last year, Mazza announced it would expand its plant extract production facility in Delta, British Colombia, following an investment of CAD 1.1 million ($820,000) from the Canadian government.
