ICRISAT launches groundnut processing unit

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid-Tropics (ICRISAT) with financial support from the Walmart Foundation has launched a primary groundnut processing unit at Maruru village in Andhra Pradesh.

 

The processing unit will help about 1,000 farmers realise an additional income of up to $100,000 annually. According to ICRISAT, women and men from farming community in Anantapur district, a dryland region, will create a self-sustaining agribusiness model aimed at doubling their farm incomes.

 

Four more groundnut processing units have been planned for the district and local youth and women entrepreneurs will be engaged.
