Dairy company, Friesland has announced the opening of FrieslandCampina DC Noord, its new distribution centre in Netherland.

In this distribution centre, FrieslandCampina will store and transfer dairy products coming from its production locations in Beilen (NL) and Meppel and from here transport these products towards the export markets.

The company statement says that the sustainably built distribution centre provides more efficiency of transport and this substantially reduces the annual CO2 emission.

Kathy Fortmann, FrieslandCampina Ingredients president said, “The distribution centre means a lot to FrieslandCampina and the neighbourhood. Meppel is a favourable, central location and easily accessible both by road and by water. The sustainable construction and more efficient transport makes a considerable contribution to the reduction of the CO2 emission.”

The distribution centre, with a surface of 31,000 square metres, is meant for storage and transfer of dairy products for export markets such as China, Hong Kong, Russia and Greece and replaces distribution centres in Meppel, Hoogeveen, Heerenveen and Veendam (all NL).

From DC Noord, dairy products can be transported straight to the port of Rotterdam by water, which really simplifies the chain. The centre has been built using sustainable materials and is durable in use.
