Kemin Industries, a global ingredient manufacturer has announced its oil-soluble green tea extract has been named ‘Generally Recognized as Safe’ (GRAS) by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

GT-FORT, the Kemin brand of oil-soluble green tea extract, is available for use as an antioxidant in a variety of food and beverage products.

“We are pleased the FDA recognizes oil-soluble green tea extract as a safe ingredient,” said Courtney Schwartz, Marketing Director, Kemin Food Technologies. “Our brand of oil-soluble green tea extract, GT-FORT, has a body of science proving it to be as efficacious as an antioxidant. We are working to help educate manufacturers on the need to replace less desired ingredients with clean label solutions, and not eliminate vital ingredients such as antioxidants from products. GT-FORT is a consumer-friendly antioxidant solution to help maintain the stability and shelf life of fat-containing foods.”

The GT-FORT product line of plant extracts for fats and oils assists with oxidation control, and is ideal for oils, snack food and bakery products, as well as sauces and dressings. GT-FORT harnesses the antioxidant properties of green tea in an oil soluble form to significantly delay lipid oxidation in food, thus extending shelf life in a consumer-friendly way.
