New methods of pyridoxine, zinc and folic acid analysis

The Scientific Panel on Methods of Sampling and Analysis, Scientific Committee and Food Authority has approved the use of new methods of analysis of Fortificants in foods such as Pyridoxine, Zinc and Folic acid and Formulated Supplements for children.

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified food testing laboratories all over the country about using the new methods with immediate effect by issuing a directive recently.

For testing and analysing atta, maida and rice for the presence of pryridoxine (Vitamin B6), EN 14164 was used as test method, while HPLC was the Instrument and Detector/Method.

Similar methods were detailed for determination of Folic acid (Vitamin B9) and zinc in fortified rice and wheat flour.
