Neogen Corporation, a leader in food safety solutions, announced a series of major product launches and technological advancements in 2024 aimed at enhancing efficiency and safety in food testing and biofuel production.
The company unveiled the Petrifilm Automated Feeder, an advanced tool designed for high-volume food safety testing labs. This automated feeder integrates seamlessly with existing Petrifilm Plate Reader Advanced equipment, enabling the automated processing of up to 300 plates in just 33 minutes. By streamlining microbial testing, the system significantly improves lab productivity while ensuring consistent, accurate colony counts.
In another significant development, Neogen’s Molecular Detection System was named the primary method by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) for detecting Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes in meat, poultry, and egg products. This recognition underscores the system’s reliability, which has been proven over five years of use by the USDA FSIS. The agency also adopted Neogen’s new Molecular Detection Assay 2 for Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium for enhanced testing.
In the biofuel sector, Neogen launched CelluSmart, a groundbreaking technology that measures cellulosic ethanol, improving upon the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) previous method. With its new yeast-degrading cocktail (YDC), CelluSmart helps ethanol producers optimise low-carbon fuel production, contributing to the creation of D3 Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs).
Neogen continues to expand its pathogen detection platform with the release of the Neogen Molecular Detection Assay 2 (MDA2SEST). This assay joins a suite of next-generation tests for Salmonella, E. coli O157, Listeria, and other pathogens, reinforcing Neogen’s commitment to providing comprehensive food safety solutions.
In collaboration with Performance Food Group, Neogen has become the official genomics provider for the company’s PathProven food trace technology. Neogen’s DNA testing capabilities will now support the traceability of food products throughout the supply chain, enhancing quality assurance and sustainability efforts.
Additionally, Neogen introduced Farm Fluid MAX, a new dual-action disinfectant launched in Great Britain. Designed for challenging farm conditions, this disinfectant is highly effective in controlling coccidiosis, targeting up to 100% of Eimeria oocysts at just 2 per cent dilution.
Lastly, Neogen expanded its pest management product line with the SureKill Gel Bait Pro Applicator, a durable, lightweight tool that enhances precision in pest control, reducing bait waste and improving application in difficult-to-reach areas.
