Both concepts are monomaterial packaging based on polypropylene

German firm SÜDPACK is launching two innovative packaging concepts for minced meat that do not require the lower shell that is otherwise common with chopped meat.

The highlight: both concepts are monomaterial packaging based on polypropylene (PP). Their very good recyclability and the significantly lower material consumption compared to standard packaging make them particularly resource-saving solutions – which also make a lasting impression at the point of sale.

The Flow Pack PurePP tubular bag film is an innovative and unconventional form of packaging for “chopped” items, thus securing consumer attention. With it you can achieve material savings of up to 60 percent compared to tray packaging.

For example, a tubular bag made of PurePP weighs only around 9.5 grams for one kilogram of minced meat. For manufacturers, however, it is also an attractive solution in other respects: Thanks to its good sealability, Flow Pack PurePP can be processed quickly and efficiently on all common tubular bag machines, even at high cycle rates.

SÜDPACK also offers a solution for packaging minced meat in thermoformed packaging, which is composed of a Multifol PurePP soft film as the bottom film and a peelable PP-based top film. This also makes a significant contribution to reducing the volume of packaging material.

The material consumption of this concept is around 55 percent compared to shell packaging. The package weight for one kilogram of minced meat is approximately 10.7 grams. Manufacturers can use the solution on all existing thermoforming packaging machines because it has very good thermoformability and sealability. Depending on the requirements, the concept allows the production of MAP (modified atmosphere packaging) or vacuum packaging.
