Sami-Sabinsa Group contributes to mid-day meal program

The contribution will help support and provide mid-day meals to the less fortunate schoolchildren in and around Bengaluru

Sami-Sabinsa Group, the multi-national health science company headquartered in Bengaluru, through its philanthropic arm, the Dr Majeed Foundation, donated Rs. 50 lakhs to The Akshaya Patra Foundation. The contribution will help support and provide mid-day meals to the less fortunate schoolchildren in and around Bengaluru.

To commemorate the activity, Dr Anju Majeed, Director, Sami-Sabinsa Group, along with Anant Arora, Chief Sustainability and Communication Officer, Akshaya Patra, flagged off the meal distribution vehicle last Friday at Rajaji Nagar in Bengaluru, Karnataka. From their kitchen at Rajaji Nagar, Akshaya Patra feeds about 75,000 schoolchildren, covering 477 schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anju Majeed said, “Our deep commitment to creating meaningful and impactful CSR interventions has improved the quality of life of vulnerable communities. We hope our initiative with The Akshaya Patra Foundation will help address malnutrition among schoolchildren.”

Also present at the event were Devendra Kumar Gupta, CFO, Sami-Sabinsa Group; Mohan Das, Vice President, HR, Sami-Sabinsa Group; Arockia Mary, South Head, Direct Marketing, Akshaya Patra; and Karthik Priyan, Manager, Direct Marketing, Akshaya Patra.

The Sami-Sabinsa team also visited the kitchen to understand the stringent procedures followed for preparing the meals as well as the safety and hygiene precautions taken here.
