The growth of the food processing sector necessitates strengthening quality assurance and food testing infrastructure

In India, public-private collaborations are on the rise, and most of the food testing laboratories have been partnering with academia to strengthen its expertise. One of the recent examples is the strategic partnership between Agilent Technologies, a global leader in analytical and clinical laboratory technologies, and National Research Centre For Grapes (NRCG). The company generated revenue of $6.83 billion globally in fiscal 2023. The collaboration between Agilent and NRCG aims to address critical gaps in emerging food safety protocols by leveraging Agilent’s expertise in analytical laboratory solutions and NRCG’s extensive experience in analytical workflow development. In conversation with NUFFOODS Spectrum, Dr Samir Vyas, Country General Manager, Agilent Technologies, sheds light on this collaboration and recent developments in the company. Edited Excerpts:

How crucial is the strategic partnership between Agilent and NRCG?

This collaboration aims to advance food safety standards in India by combining Agilent’s global expertise with National Research Centre For Grapes (NRCG) analytical workflow development experience. The focus is on expediting the creation of workflows for Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), polar pesticides, antibiotics, and other emerging applications, ensuring compliance with stringent regulations. The collaboration has two strategic objectives: to advocate for emerging workflows and enhance food safety and authenticity. It intends to strengthen existing workflows, advocate for new regulations, and facilitate their adoption by domestic regulatory bodies. It also plans to publish Food Safety and Standards Regulations
