FMCG sector adaptation and resilience can help build a robust and sustainable economy for Viksit Bharat: Chirag Paswan

He also mentioned that in the near future, there would be a total of one hundred food testing labs and fifty multi-purpose food irradiation machines.

At the 13th edition of ‘FICCI MASSMERIZE 2024,’ which took place on 7 September 2024, Chirag Paswan, the Minister of Food Processing Industries for the Government of India, emphasised the importance of ensuring that the quality of products should never be compromised in any sector. This is because such a compromise will not only have an effect on the brand of the company, but it will also have an effect on the brand of India. He went on to say that the government is currently actively striving to build our very own Indian standards, which ought to be recognised by the rest of the world.

According to the Minister, the retail, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and e-commerce sectors in India are a key pillar of the country’s expanding economy. “As we work towards a Viksit Bharat, the agility and resilience of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry will be essential to the formation of a robust and sustainable economy. He went on to say that these industries will be essential in realising the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat that the Prime Minister has for the country.

A further emphasis was placed by the Minister on the necessity of locating and making use of the abundant resources that are already existing inside the nation. It was also said by him that the administration is working towards the goal of transforming India’s people into an asset for the nation that features enormous prospects. When it comes to markets, India not only provides enormous opportunities within its own borders but also to the rest of the world. The diversity that we have in every industry is a direct result of our population, which is what drives innovation and new technologies.

Envisaging PM’s vision

In addition to restating the Prime Minister’s objectives, Paswan emphasised the significance of change and transformation. Over the course of the past decade, India has undergone revolutionary reforms and achieved new heights, both of which are being witnessed by the rest of the globe. There is a significant role that the industry plays in this process. Amrit Kaal’s goal is to make India a developed nation by 2047, and he added that every stakeholder plays an important role in the journey towards this goal.

In his discussion of the recent advancements in the food processing industry, Paswan highlighted that the primary purpose of the government is to guarantee that the amount of food that is wasted is kept to a minimum while also including value addition. In addition, he mentioned that in the near future, there would be a total of one hundred food testing labs and fifty multi-purpose food irradiation machines.

Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, stated the following during the session titled “Navigating consumer behaviour shifts and strategies for success.” She stated, “We are committed to enhancing consumer experience through an efficient system of grievance redressal.” As many complaints as possible will be resolved by our national consumer helpline, which is dedicated to resolving them. Notably, the number of complaints that have been registered has increased by a factor of two since the previous year, which is indicative of the growing confidence of consumers in the national grievance redressal mechanism.

According to Harsha V. Agarwal, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Emami Limited, the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry would be driven by innovation and technology in the future, with sustainability serving as the central focus of all activities. “When we look to the future, it will be essential for us to embrace innovation and digital transformation in order to maintain our competitive edge,” he pointed out further.
