Inside BENEO’s new pulse plant: pioneering sustainable protein from faba beans
The findings underscore the potential of diabetes-specific protein supplements (DSPS) to support people with Type-2 diabetes in bridging nutritional gaps that often exist in traditional Indian diets
Danone India, through its flagship adult nutrition brand Protinex, announced the results of a large-scale Phase-4 post-marketing survey assessing the self-reported benefits of Protinex Diabetes Care (PDC) in adults living with Type-2 diabetes across India.
The survey, published in the South-Eastern European Journal of Public Health (SEEJPH, 2025), involved 500 participants across six cities, of which 480 completed the study. All were identified by healthcare professionals as having Type-2 diabetes and inadequate dietary protein and fibre intake. Participants consumed Protinex Diabetes Care daily for one month alongside their regular care.
Key highlights from participants’ feedback:
· 82 per cent perceived better blood-sugar management
· 92.5 per cent reported higher energy levels
· 78.8 per cent reported improved physical strength
· 98.8 per cent said they would recommend PDC to others
The findings underscore the potential of diabetes-specific protein supplements (DSPS) to support people with Type-2 diabetes in bridging nutritional gaps that often exist in traditional Indian diets.
Dr Priya Karkera, Head – Medical Affairs and Nutrition Science: “At Danone, we are committed to advancing evidence-based nutrition to improve health outcomes. The encouraging feedback from this real-world survey highlights the role that targeted nutrition—rich in quality protein, soluble fibre, and essential vitamins—can play in supporting adults with diabetes alongside their prescribed medical care and lifestyle changes. We believe in empowering individuals and healthcare professionals with practical solutions to help manage chronic conditions like diabetes.”
The study also revealed high acceptance of the product: 99.4 per cent liked its taste, and 92.5 per cent found it easy to incorporate into daily routines, a crucial factor in long-term adherence.
While these findings suggest a positive role for nutrition supplements, the study authors emphasize the need for further controlled clinical trials to confirm the benefits.
Protinex Diabetes Care is formulated with high-quality milk and soy protein, Nutriose soluble fibre, and essential vitamins and minerals, and is clinically proven to be low in glycaemic index, making it suitable for inclusion in diabetes management under medical guidance.
