K Chandramouli retires as chairperson of FSSAI

K Chandramouli, Chairperson of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) holding the office for close to four years has retired on January 23, 2015. Chandramouli, replaced P I Suvrathan, in September 2011 as chairperson of FSSAI, an apex regulatory body for the food and beverage industry.

Chandramouli, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of Uttar Pradesh Cadre and held the post of Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare and Secretary, Department of AIDS Control in Government of India. He was also the Central Provident Fund Commissioner and Joint Secretary in the Ministries of Health & Labour.

A 1975 batch IAS officer worked in Government of India in various capacities for 17 years of which 12 years he worked in the Ministry of Health. A post graduate in Chemistry, Chandramouli has held various significant positions, including as a District Magistrate in Sultanpur, Saharanpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Principal Secretary in the Finance, Home and Social Welfare departments and Commissioner in the Finance and Revenue Department in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
