Indo Nissin Foods Limited, a subsidiary of Nissin Foods Holdings Co., Ltd., Japan, announced that it is the withdrawing its popular instant noodles brand “Top Ramen” from the Indian market pending its product approval from the food regulator, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

On June 8, FSSAI had come out with the advisory on product safety testing of all instant noodle products in India, after the regulatory agency found high level of lead in samples of Maggi 2 Minutes noodles from Nestle India. At that time Indo Nissin Foods had sought clarification from FSSAI since Top Ramen product approval is pending with the regulator.

Top Ramen has been in the Indian market since 1991 and is loved by millions of Indian consumers. The brand has never had any product safety issue or product recall in the last 24 years. It is manufactured in company owned factories with the highest quality and safety standards in keeping with its Japanese heritage.

The company’s release noted that the FSSAI has requested the company to withdraw the product until it gives the product approval. The company hopes to get the approval soon from FSSAI and be back in the market providing safe and affordable food products.
