In a surprising move, Yudhvir Singh Malik, CEO of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, has been transferred to NITI Aayog as additional secretary. He has been transferred in just one year.
Malik’s appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), headed by prime minister Narendra Modi, an order issued by department of personnel said.
A 1983 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, Malik took over as CEO of FSSAI in September last year. His sudden transfer from FSSAI in just about a year’s time, has surprised many, as the term for a CEO defined under the FSS Act is of three years.
During his tenure, FSSAI was much in discussion following the recall of Maggi noodles products in June. FSSAI was being criticized for mishandling the issue. Even the Mumbai high court had lifted the ban and asked Nestle to test their products again citing the reason that principle of natural justice was not observed as Nestle was not given hearing before issuing the ban.
