Food Corporation of India (FCI) will have full-fledged administrative setup in Guwahati for smooth implementation of Food Security Act. Foundation Stone of FCI administrative building had been laid in Guwahati by Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, in the presence of Prof K V Thomas, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution recently.

Presently in North-East there are 77 Food Corporation of India depots operational with capacity of 4.68 lakh MT. Besides this 20 projects currently under construction in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura that will augment storage capacity by about 125060 MT, out of which 53000 MT likely to be completed by March 2014.

FCI effectively serving the needs of Public Distribution System beneficiaries through annual induction of 37 lakh MT of food grains to North East States in face of geographical constraints and developing infrastructure. Providing remunerative prices to farmers besides promoting sports by recruitments and stipendiary benefits to young sports persons in the area.
