Preeti Sudan gets interim charge of FSSAI chief

Health Secretary Preeti Sudan has been given interim charge of chairperson, Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), an official order has said.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved entrustment of the interim charge of the FSSAI chairperson to Preeti Sudan, the Secretary, Department of Heath and Family Welfare, with effect from July 28, 2018, the order further said.

Sudan is a 1983 batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre.

Tenure of the current chairman Ashish Bahugana has ended now. Bhauguna, a retired IAS officer and former Agriculture Secretary, was appointed as Chairman of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in July 2015 after the food regulator came into action and banned Nestle’s instant noodle Maggi creating an outcry globally that was unprecedented for the Indian food industry.
