Food delivery start-up Swiggy has launched an initiative called Swiggy Packaging Assist that offer restaurants access to a variety of packing solution.
The marketplace program connects restaurants with vendors of sustainable materials and offers eco-friendly and food grade certified materials including leakproof, sturdy, stackable, eco-friendly and heat insulant packaging materials.
Vendors on the marketplace will offer discounts of up to 5% to restaurants opting for these solutions.
Swiggy Packaging Assist seeks to introduce eco-friendly meal trays and other items made from materials like cornstarch, bagasse etc. Swiggy is also working with various manufacturers and design consultants to come up with innovations and enhancements of the quality of packaging available in the country.
The firm has also plans to build an on-ground team that provides customized solutions to restaurants for the improvement in the quality of packaging.
The program has been rolled out to restaurants in Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune and will be available to other cities in the next three months.
