Food India initiative by Salon International de l’alimentation (SIAL) has shown that the world has realized the opportunities that India presents in food processing, said Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Food Processing Minister.

Addressing the 1st edition of ‘Food India by SIAL’, Badal said “as the number of food shows increases, it will result in more modern technology and tie-ups of companies with our local farmers and producers which will result in greater opportunities and more employment for the youth as food processing is an employment generating sector.”

Despite India being major food producing countries in the world, only 10% food gets processed and there is a lot of wastage, according to Union Minister of Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

While inaugurating the first SIAL Food India exposition she said, “With modern technology in food processing coming to India food wastage will reduce substantially.”

Participants from 109 countries exhibited thousands of products, showcasing the scope of food processing industry.

The Minister visited various stalls and encouraged woman entrepreneurs to avail several benefits and subsidies available for women. She also encouraged the exhibitors to source raw materials from rural and tribal areas.
