PAU to commercialise chilli hybrid, onion variety

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked a pact with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna and Arizona Seeds Private Limited, Village Inderpura, Nabha Road, District Patiala for the commercialisation of CH 27 (Chilli Hybrid) and PRO 7 (Onion Variety).

 

Dr N.S. Bains, Director of Research, PAU, Dr. Priya Ranjan Kumar, Principal Scientist and M.D Mohd Shamshad, signed the Memorandum of Agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Additional Director of Research informed that PAU has signed 13 MoAs for the commercialization CH 27.

 

Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Head, Department of Vegetable Science, PAU, added that PRO 7 is an early maturing variety and high yielding variety with large red coloured bulbs, being widely accepted by farmers in the North Western part of the country. Its average yield is 160 quintals per acre and can be stored for longer period.

 

Dr Salesh Jindal, Assistant Vegetable Breeder, Department of Vegetable Science informed that CH-27 is high yielding chilli hybrid with multiple resistances to leaf curl virus, fruit rot and root knot nematodes. The hybrid is suitable for powder making and processing purposes.
