With the Government of India and state governments making the cultivation of seaweeds a priority sector, the seaweed industry is now seen as a sunrise industry for India now as well and the event will help in mainstreaming the Indian seaweed industry.

The Indian Chamber of Commerce has organized the India International Seaweed Expo & Summit 2019 Maharashtra in association with CSIR-CSMCRI, Bhavnagar, Gujarat in partnership with NITI Aayog from  22nd to 24th January 2019 at World Trade Centre, Mumbai.

An initiative focusing on the Seaweed sector, the Expo and conference intends to explore the ocean of opportunities this sunrise sector has to offer. In the inaugural session, Mr. Mayank Jalan, Sr. Vice President highlighted the fact that China, Korea, Japan are ahead in this sector and also mentioned the huge potential of seaweed industry and its usage.  

Dr. Amitava Das, Director, CSIR-CSMCRI mentioned in his brief speech applauded for the efforts made  to bring all the stakeholders of Seaweed Industry on one platform and also explained the seaweed parameters and classifications.

“Government of India wants to promote the Seaweed sector and NITI Aayog is inviting the proposals from Seaweed Industry to discuss and take that forward,” said Dr. Anil Pratap Singh, Adviser (Agriculture), NITI Aayog, Government of India.

Guest of Honour, Mr. Mahadev Jagannath Jankar, Hon’ble Minister, Department of Fisheries, Government of Maharashtra emphasized on the initiative of the State Government to give training to the youth and for the need to develop the infrastructure for the seaweed industry in the State.

Dr. Rajeev Singh, Director General, ICC thanked all the dignitaries for making the first International Conference in India on Seaweed Sector organized by Indian Chamber of Commerce a successful one.
