PAU signs pact with Michigan State University

According to the MoU, seven students of Michigan State University under the GRAIN project will study a part of their academic curriculum at PAU.

Dr Frederick J Derksen from the Michigan State University, USA, recently visited PAU in connection with the project, Grain Research and Innovation (GRAIN) of which Dr Derksen is in charge. After a meeting with the University Vice Chancellor, Dr B.S. Dhillon and other senior officials, an MoU was signed by the two Universities for conducting various academic exchange programmes.

According to the MoU, seven students of Michigan State University under the GRAIN project will study a part of their academic curriculum at PAU. Out of these, six students will be enrolled for the Doctorate programme while one for Master’s Degree. These students primarily will be associated with Afghanistan and work on research target towards improved varieties of wheat.

Dr Derksen expressed hope that students under the project would be able to bring about revolutionary changes in agriculture back home. Ace breeder and Director of Research, PAU, Dr Navtej Singh Bains highlighted the milestones achieved by the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics and shared the number of opportunities available for students doing research studies in the department.
