A one day conference on the opportunities and challenges in dairy development in Vidharbha region of Maharashtra was held at the 11th Agrovision in Nagpur, on 23 November 2019. The conference saw the presence of many experts in the dairy industry including Union minister of Dairy and Animal husbandry Giriraj Singh
Vidharbha as a comparatively arid region where agriculture does not ensure profitability has a huge potential of dairy sector. Various speakers discussed the aspects to overcome low productivity in the region.
The chairman of NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) Dilip Rath mentioned about NDDB and Mother dairy’s collaboration to help increase milk procurement in the region. The executive director of NDDB Arun Raste mentioned the need for research in the field of ethnoveternary medicine in India.
One of the major concerns rose was towards the quality of milk produced, where Dr. Prashant Wasnik , Dean, College of Diary technology, Pusad highlighted that the milk pricing in future will depend upon the number of micro organisms present in it.
