A recent randomised double-blinded placebo-controlled study, reported for the first time, the influence of a fenugreek extract on PERI-MENOPAUSAL discomforts, employing FENUSMART® for supplementation

Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum), used as a spice throughout the world to enhance the unique flavour qualities of foods, has received great attention as a medicinal herb with many interesting health beneficial effects to human beings, especially under conditions related to hormonal balance.

Recent studies have explored the beneficial effects of a novel and patented composition of fenugreek extract (FENUSMART®) developed by Cochin based Akay-Spiceuticals, in menopausal discomforts at a relatively low dosage.

“This holistic extract of fenugreek with all the essential phytonutrients in fenugreek has been prepared by hydro-ethanolic extraction with a unique 3:1 ratio of Protodioscin to Trigonelline from selected fenugreek varieties at special stage of its harvest”, said Emmanuel Nambusseril, Chief marketing Officer, Akay-Spiceuticals.

A recent randomised double-blinded placebo-controlled study, reported for the first time, the influence of a fenugreek extract on PERI-MENOPAUSAL discomforts, employing FENUSMART® for supplementation.  Though there are many studies examining the postmenopausal discomforts, only a few have dealt with the peri-menopausal discomforts.

According to the researchers, the supplementation at 250mg× 2/day FenuSMART for 6 weeks significantly improved the vasomotor symptoms and depression with a healthy hormonal balance without any adverse effects or affecting the clinical safety parameters in perimenopausal women at the investigational dosage.

Another recent study has also shown the efficacy of FENUSMART in alleviating the problems related to POST-MENOPAUSE with an overall all modulation of the hormonal concentrations towards a balance. The study had revealed the efficacy to modulate leg pain & inflammation among postmenopusal subjects along with its efficacy on vasomotor effects.

The study was funded by Akay Natural Ingredients, India as a part of the research programme for the development of “Spiceuticals®” – the nutraceutical ingredients from spices.
