Need to understand the sensory, organic, and laboratory parameters of ayurvedic medicines- Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Manoj Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA)

The PHD Chamber in association with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India organised a webinar on Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Ayurveda System on August 19, 2021.

Prof Tanuja Manoj Nesari, Director, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) mentioned about Ayurvedic process of consuming drugs is scientific and defined as it focuses on the body and mind. It also focuses on good manufacturing practices, clinical, and agriculture practices. She highlighted that Industry needs to maintain its quality and standards in the Ayurvedic sector. “We need to understand the sensory, organic, and laboratory parameters of Ayurvedic medicines”, she added.

Pradeep Multani, Sr. Vice President, PHD Chamber, talked about the importance of Ayurveda, Pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacodynemics in the movement of drugs in the body. 

Arvind Varchaswi, Chair, AYUSH Committee, PHD Chamber & Managing Director, Sri Sri Tattva, while giving Industry remarks, mentioned that to assess the effect that a drug regimen is likely to have, the clinician should consider pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors. Both are important in determining a drug’s effect. A drug’s effect may also be determined by the amount of time the drug is present at the site of action.  

Jitender Sodhi, Co-Chair, AYUSH Committee & Managing Director, AYUSH Herbs further mentioned that Ayurvedic pharmacology of drug action can be explained using the principles of Guna, Virya, Rasa, Prabhava, and Vipaka.
