‘Clinical research in nutrition is missing in India’: Dr Krishna Ella-Bharat Biotech

At the ongoing Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi (on 9 & 10 June 2022), a panel discussion took place with eminent speakers from the biotechnology field, which included Dr Renu Swarup, Former Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Dr Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Dr Krishna Ella, Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Biotech, Prof Padmanaban Govindarajan, to name a few.

During the discussion, Dr Krishna Ella pointed out, “The food in American and European countries is very uniform. But that is not the case in India. For example, the food in Rajasthan is very different from we get in Telangana. We are missing clinical research in nutrition in our country. We need to assess nutrition for Indian clinically and scientifically.”

This indeed calls for an urgent need to increase investment and turn attention towards quality nutrition research in India.

Dr Ella also spoke briefly about how India should look at ensuring ‘food security’ in the future.

To celebrate 10 years of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)’s enabling efforts towards progressing India’s Biotech Sector, Biotech Startup Expo – 2022 has been organised to highlight innovations in healthcare, medtech, diagnostic, food, nutrition, agriculture etc.
