New Zealand Expansion
In its latest move, Intertek has expanded the testing capabilities of its New Plymouth laboratory, making it the only facility in New Zealand equipped to conduct full specification analysis of Animal Fats (AF) and Used Cooking Oils (UCO). These materials are critical for biofuel production, positioning the lab at the forefront of clean energy innovation.
Advancing Solar Industry Standards
In September, Intertek’s clean energy advisory division, Clean Energy Associates (CEA), was appointed as one of the first companies to assess the solar industry’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards under the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI). CEA will monitor the compliance of photovoltaic (PV) solar industry factories with the SSI’s ESG benchmarks, reinforcing sustainability in solar energy production.
Collaborating with the DRC on Eco-Levy Program
In August, Intertek joined forces with the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to support the country’s Eco-Levy program. The company was appointed by Écologie et Développement Durable (EDD) to collect the Eco-Levy on behalf of the DRC’s Environmental Intervention Fund (FIPE) and issue Eco-Certificates for regulated imports.
ToxClear Platform Upgrade
On August 2, Intertek launched an upgraded version of its ToxClear solution, a digital platform designed to provide sustainable chemical management. The platform is now available to soft goods and hard goods stakeholders, enhancing supply chain safety, traceability, and transparency by offering end-to-end Total Chemical Assurance.
Key Appointments in Iraq and Saudi Arabia
In July, Intertek was appointed as an authorised Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) by Iraq’s Central Organisation for Standardisation and Quality Control (COSQC), allowing the company to assess imported goods. Intertek was also authorized by Saudi Arabia’s Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) to conduct inspections and issue Certificates of Inspection (CoI) for used motor vehicles being imported into the Kingdom.
Supporting Offshore Wind in the North Sea
Intertek continues its collaboration with TenneT, the transmission system operator, to provide long-term client representation services for offshore wind grid connections in the Dutch and German North Sea. This partnership supports Germany’s ambitious energy transition goals, including becoming climate-neutral by 2050.
Sustainability Recognition
For the eighth consecutive year, Intertek was included in the prestigious FTSE4Good Index, which benchmarks companies with strong ESG practices. This recognition reinforces Intertek’s commitment to delivering quality, safety, and sustainability with precision.
Pioneering Tidal Energy Research
As part of the Welsh Government’s Tidal Lagoon Challenge, Intertek is contributing hydrodynamic modelling expertise to help quantify the benefits of tidal lagoons. This initiative, in partnership with Cardiff University and Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, aims to unlock the potential of tidal energy in Wales.
Ethical AI Management Systems
In April, Intertek expanded its Information Security and Technology Assurance services to include auditing and certification for the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) standard, promoting ethical and responsible AI practices.
