Subway announces Carrie Walsh as Interim CEO

CEO John Chidsey to Retire at Year-End

Subway, one of the world’s largest restaurant brands, announced that John Chidsey, Global Chief Executive Officer (CEO), will retire at the end of 2024 after five years of outstanding leadership. Carrie Walsh, currently the President of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and former Global Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), will step in as Interim CEO. At the same time, a search is conducted for Chidsey’s permanent successor.

Chidsey joined Subway in 2019 as the first CEO from outside the founding family and led a multi-year transformation of the business. Under his leadership, Subway strengthened its market position by refreshing its menu and enhancing the guest experience, while also accelerating digital innovation. Chidsey implemented Subway’s global growth strategy, attracting well-resourced, experienced multi-unit operators and master franchisees. As a result, the brand has over 10,000 future restaurant commitments and is on track to more than double the number of new restaurant openings in 2024 compared to 2019.
