MCCIA Pune hosts Quality and Food Safety Leadership Summit 2024

Discussions focused on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the food industry, sanitary design principles, sanitation best practices

The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), hosted the Quality and Food Safety Leadership Summit 2024 at the MCCIA Trade Tower in Pune. The event brought together experts and stakeholders from across the food industry to foster discussions on elevating food safety and quality standards. A total of 156 participants attended the Summit and interacted with experts.

The summit commenced with an insightful inaugural session featuring distinguished speakers, including Sanjay Kirloskar, President of MCCIA Pune; Anand Chordia, Chairman of MCCIA’s Food Processing Committee; Umesh Chandra Sarangi, (Retd.) IAS and Chairman of MCCIA’s Agriculture Processing Committee; Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner of Food & Drugs Administration (FDA) Pune; and Tarun Bajaj, Director of APEDA. They emphasised the summit’s objective of strengthening the food industry’s resilience through innovative approaches to quality and safety and regulatory requirements.

Discussions focused on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the food industry, sanitary design principles, sanitation best practices, and building strong food safety cultures. Esteemed speakers included Dr Kavya Dashora from IIT Delhi, Kuldeep Mulik of Godrej Tyson Foods, Gautam Dange of SLMG Beverages, Jitendra Parihar of GEMS, and AI expert Amit Jadhav.

Topics ranged from food hygiene in the HORECA sector to advances in food testing and the role of standards in enhancing food safety. Chef Manjit Gill, President of the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA), and Deshraj Sharma of Ferrero India shared their insights alongside other industry leaders such as Kumud Ashish Singh of Merck Life Science and Prajakta Kulkarni of Envirocare Labs.

A panel discussion on exports of food products and preventing rejections, moderated by Smita Murthy, a representative from Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) India, added depth to the deliberations, addressing challenges in scaling businesses while ensuring compliance with global food safety standards. The panellists included Lavika Singh from BIS, Iva Chakraborty of Sahyadri Farms, and Dr Hema Yadav of VAMNICOM.
