Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in the Budget

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman announced the creation of a Makhana Board in Bihar, describing it as a unique opportunity for the state. The board will focus on improving Makhana production, processing, value addition, and marketing, aiming to enhance the crop’s growth and strengthen Bihar’s agricultural economy.

Announcing the Government’s decision to establish a Makhana Board in Bihar, Sitharaman said it will improve the production, processing, value addition, and marketing of makhana as well as support the people engaged in these activities to be organised into Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). She added that the Board will provide handholding and training support to makhana farmers and also work to ensure they receive the benefits of all relevant Government schemes.
