Key issues and challenges related to the import of food items were discussed and deliberated
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) convened the first Importers Association Meeting under the Food Safety and Trade Facilitation Committee (FSTFC) at FDA Bhawan, New Delhi, under the chairmanship of the CEO, FSSAI.
The meeting saw the participation of 14 food importers’ associations from across the country. Key issues and challenges related to the import of food items were discussed and deliberated. The major issues highlighted included ensuring uniformity in the import clearance process, strengthening IT systems, addressing concerns related to testing and labelling, and discussing prompt systemic measures for quick resolution to further enhance trade facilitation.
This important initiative reflects FSSAI’s continued commitment towards creating a more transparent, efficient, and streamlined import ecosystem while upholding the highest standards of food safety and ease of doing business in India.
