SIG lays foundation of first aseptic carton plant in Ahmedabad

SIG a leading player in the packaging industry, laid the foundation of the first aseptic carton plant in Ahmedabad India. The company plans to invest approximately INR 525.98 crores in the facility being constructed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This will be the 10th aseptic carton plant of the global packaging solutions provider which celebrated its 170th anniversary this year.


The company plans to invest in phases between 2023 and 2025 to increase production capacity to 4 billion packs per year. Further investments will help us increase capacity up to 10 billion packs per year. SIG’s investment of €60 million (INR 525.98 crores) will go towards advanced production technology for printing and finishing aseptic carton packs. The company is committed to ensuring that all our packages meet strict environmental, quality, and safety standards, meeting the needs of both food and beverage producers and consumers.


During the ground-breaking ceremony, Samuel Sigrist, CEO of SIG, expressed that the Indian market is changing, leading to an increase in demand for sustainable aseptic packaging solutions. With the establishment of our aseptic carton plant in India, we will be able to serve our customers more effectively and efficiently. Our team has gained valuable experience and insights during our 5-year presence in India, and we are committed to providing innovative, high-quality, and sustainable packaging solutions to the diverse food and beverage industry in India. This new plant is a testament to our dedication to our customers and our belief in the bright future of India’s food and beverage industry.


Vandana Tandan, who is in charge of Markets for India and Bangladesh at SIG, stated that India’s remarkable growth makes it a significant market for the company, particularly in the dairy and juice sectors. As a result, SIG has decided to establish its tenth aseptic carton plant in Ahmedabad, a western Indian city. This advanced facility will allow the company to serve its customers more efficiently and promptly. The plant will be operational by 2025 and will generate 300 employment opportunities in the area, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
