Inside BENEO’s new pulse plant: pioneering sustainable protein from faba beans
The collaboration enables a trial export of 20 metric tonnes of GI-tagged Chakhao white rice to Japan in November–December 2025
Strengthening India’s rice exports and empowering North-Eastern farmers, APEDA has facilitated an MoU between Shree Gajanan Industries, Nizamabad and Chakhao Poireiton Organic Producer Company, Imphal. The signing took place during the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) in New Delhi.
Supported by the Manipur Department of Agriculture, the collaboration enables a trial export of 20 metric tonnes of GI-tagged Chakhao white rice to Japan in November–December 2025. The initiative seeks to promote Manipur’s unique aromatic rice in international markets, enhance farmers’ income by eliminating middlemen, and strengthen India’s agri-export potential.
APEDA, in partnership with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), supported the testing and validation of Chakhao rice, confirming its authenticity, nutritional richness, and suitability for Japanese cuisine. The variety was also evaluated by leading chefs in India, who recognised it as one of the most compatible rice types for Japan’s culinary preferences. This MoU follows the APEDA-led delegation’s visit to Japan in September 2025 and reflects India’s continued efforts to promote its GI-tagged agricultural produce in premium global markets.
