Zappfresh forays into frozen veg snacks category with Meevaa Foods brand

Earmarks Rs 10 crore investment

Zappfresh (DSM Fresh Foods), a trusted fresh and frozen food brand with a strong focus on quality and hygiene, today announced the launch of Meevaa Foods, its new frozen vegetarian snacks brand, as part of its strategy to expand into the ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook food segment. The company aims to address the growing demand for safe, hygienic, and convenient food options among urban consumers. Zappfresh has started with a pilot range of 12 frozen products, with plans to introduce additional products every quarter based on consumer response and category growth. Over the next two to three years, the company plans to invest around Rs 10 crore to scale its frozen food operations, strengthen processing capabilities, and expand its product portfolio.

Frozen food products will be available in Delhi NCR starting February 9, followed by Mumbai and Bengaluru from March 1. It has been designed to combine restaurant-quality taste with modern food processing and safety standards. The initial portfolio includes vegetarian frozen ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook products, such as samosas, momos, kebabs, patties, tikkis, spring rolls, and gravies.

All products are manufactured at an export-certified facility and follow strict hygiene and quality protocols. The food is prepared fresh and blast-frozen at minus 18 degrees in three stages, a process that helps preserve taste, texture, and freshness while preventing bacterial growth. As part of its supply strategy, the company expects imports and exports to account for around 15–20 per cent of its frozen food volumes.

The frozen food range is already being exported to international markets including Canada, the US and Saudi Arabia, demonstrating adherence to global food safety and quality standards. By introducing the same export-grade products in the Indian market, the company aims to bring globally benchmarked frozen foods to Indian households.

Deepanshu, Managing Director, Zappfresh, said, “Consumers today want convenience, but not at the cost of taste or quality. With Meevaa Foods, our objective was to create frozen products that consumers can trust and enjoy at home. Our recent acquisition in the frozen and processed foods segment enabled us to fast-track this vision, allowing us to bring our frozen food range to market within just a few weeks, while significantly strengthening our manufacturing and processing capabilities. Curated by Ambrozia, the recipes bring strong product expertise and
consistency to our frozen food portfolio. Throughout the process, our focus has remained on maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, without compromising on taste, quality, or portion integrity.

Prreya Aggarwal, Director, Zappfresh said, “The frozen food category in India is evolving rapidly, supported by better cold-chain infrastructure and changing consumer habits. We believe frozen foods can offer consistency, safety, and great taste when done right. Meevaa Foods fits well into our long-term vision of expanding into value-added foods and building capabilities that support both domestic consumption and exports.”

The products are made using a mix of advanced food technology and traditional preparation methods. While machinery is used for processes such as mixing and grinding to ensure consistency and safety, the filling of products like momos, samosas, and tikkis is done by hand to deliver a fuller, more satisfying bite. The entire range is free from MSG, preservatives, additives, and artificial food colouring, and is certified by FSSAI, USFDA, HACCP, Halal, and BRCGS, meeting both domestic and international food safety requirements.
