FBO registration, licensing deadline extended to August 4

The food business operators (FBOs) have been given three months’ extension for registration or for obtaining licenses from the food regulator, Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The deadline expired on May 4, 2016. The FBOs can now register or obtain license till August 4, 2016.
According to the order issued by Rakesh Chandra Sharma, director (enforcement), FSSAI, the final date for registration and licensing has been extended for the last time as per the instructions received from the ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India.
The is the seventh time the deadline has been extended. There are estimated 5 crore FBOs in the country and of which only around 40 lakhs have obtained license or have registered themselves.
