McCain Foods is investing £100m in expanding the Scarborough plant in order to meet the increased demands for its products. The company is best known as a producer of frozen fries.

McCain is the UK’s largest purchaser of British potatoes, buying approximately 15% of the annual potato crop. The company has four factories across UK, along with the head office situated in North Yorkshire.

The investment proposal includes equipment upgrades, now odor reduction technology and extensive landscape of the surrounding land. It will also address long term capacity and capability opportunities and deliver the latest technology and broader environmental benefits.

As part of this investment, the company is going ahead with the installation of an anaerobic digester for breaking down waste products to release gases for energy generation. The company plans to implement renewable technology to further reduce its environmental impact.

This decision will certainly secure the company’s operations in Scarborough and employment in the area will continue for decades to come.
