FSSAI updates labelling compliance timelines

The new standard enforcement date is set for July 1st

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has updated the compliance timeline for amendments to its labelling provisions, a decision finalized during the 45th meeting of the Food Authority. The official order was issued.

As per Section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the FSSAI can amend regulations with Central Government approval.

Key highlights of the revised compliance timeline include:

A standard enforcement date of July 1st has been established for amendments related to the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations and other labelling provisions across FSS Regulations. This date ensures a minimum of 180 days from the date of notification for businesses to align their practices.

For emergencies, the Authority has introduced flexibility by allowing case-by-case decisions on implementation timelines, ensuring timely responses to public health or safety needs.
