Students from Food Science & Nutrition College receive Naram awards on World Food Day 

The awards were presented to the 1st and 2nd rank holders and they were recognised and received certificates, trophies, and cash prizes

The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), Mumbai Chapter organised a World Food Day at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT at Matunga in Mumbai, where 47 students from 22 specialisations from food science and nutrition colleges from across Mumbai received the Naram awards in memory of Dr K U Naram by the Naram family and AFST (I) Mumbai. The awards were presented to the 1st and 2nd rank holders and they were recognised and received certificates, trophies, and cash prizes.

The World Food Day at ICT saw a series of informative lectures by the speakers. The program kicked off with the Prof A Sreenivasan Memorial Lecture on “Innovation in Food” by Mansoor Siddiqui, an Innovation Expert and the Founder of Lab-to-label Accelerator Pvt Ltd. His talk shed light on the crucial role of innovation in the food industry and emphasized the need to prioritize nutrition in food development. Later the Prof D V Rege Memorial Lecture on “Technological Interventions in Jaggery Production for Vertical Value-driven Benefits of Farmers and Consumers” was delivered by Dr Prabodh Halde, Past President of AFST (I) and Chairman of CASMB. Halde highlighted the importance of technology in improving jaggery production for the benefit of both farmers and consumers.

The event also featured the Dr K U Naram Memorial Lecture on “Traditional Foods in Modern Lifestyle, which was presented by Naaznin Husein, Co-Convenor of Netprofan Mumbai and Founder of Freedom Wellness Management. She discussed the relevance of traditional foods in the context of modern lifestyles, advocating for a balanced approach to nutrition. The Chief Guest for the occasion, Arvind Ghuge, IRS, JointCommissioner of Customs, and also the alma mater of ICT inspired the students and attendees about the importance of food and innovation. Prof AB Pandit, Vice Chancellor of ICT, and others were present on the occasion of World Food Day.
