The new lab is worth Rs 17 crore

Madhya Pradesh Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has been equipped with a microbiology laboratory that can detect animal fats in food as well as milk products.

As per the MoU signed with the FSSAI, the expert team that will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the lab will be supported by FSSAI. It will be for three years after which FDA personnel will be trained for a takeover.

The new lab worth Rs 17 crore was inaugurated by health minister, Tulsi Silawat, in Bhopal recently.

It is the first microbiological laboratory of the state at the FDA office at Idgah Hills in Bhopal. Presence of pesticide including urea, detergents, heavy metals added in food can also be diagnosed in this lab.

Initially four machines, each costing about Rs 4 crore each has been installed. Equipment worth Rs 80 lakh is expected to be installed.
