Dr Vilas A Tonapi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad highlighted the need and importance of the course formulation

The “21-day Virtual Refresher Course on Recent Advances in Millets Research” organised by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR), Hyderabad from 10 December concluded on 31 December, 2020.

In his valedictory address, Dr. A.K. Vyas, ADG (HRM), ICAR applauded ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad for providing 100 per cent virtual course through online classes, virtual tours, e-Publications and e-Certificates. Dr. Vyas also urged for collecting the data on impact of the training course after one year. He emphasized on replicating the Refresher Course Model of Sorghum / Small Millets in all other ICAR-AICRPs on Crops too. Dr. Vyas also released the e-copy of the “Compendium of Lecture Notes” and felicitated the participants by e-Certificates.

Earlier, in his inaugural address on 10 December, 2020, Dr. M.V. Channabyre Gowda, Former Project Coordinator, ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Small Millets, Bengaluru, Karnataka emphasized for more one-to-one interactions between the speakers and participants after each Technical Session to welcome new ideas that will lead to the Project formulations.

Dr. Prabhakar, Former Project Coordinator, ICAR-AICRP on Small Millets, Bengaluru, Bengaluru, Karnataka stressed the need to know about the Standard Operating Procedures for conducting the research trials in each discipline by the new entrants to the Millets research.

The main objective of the course was to upgrade the knowledge of millets researchers in the country.

A total of 183 participants from 17 States covering 27 State Agricultural Universities, 2 KVKs, 2 ICAR institutes and 2 Private Companies virtually participated in the programme.
