As part of the MoU, Zomato and MoHUA will manage a pilot programme with 300 vendors across six cities

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Zomato and The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to provide greater income-earning opportunities for street food vendors on the food delivery platform and empower them with new digital technology.

As part of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNibhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, Zomato and MoHUA will band together to bring on street food vendors on Zomato’s food-tech platform, a ministry statement explained.

MoHUA has also launched the ’PMSVANidhi se Samriddhi’ mobile app for socio-economic profiling of the scheme’s recipient and their families. This app will link the recipient to various other central government schemes.

As part of the MoU, Zomato and MoHUA will manage a pilot programme with 300 vendors across six cities. These are – Nagpur, Patna, Ludhiana, Bhopal, Raipur and Vadodara. Assistance will be provided to street vendors for FSSAI and PAN registration. They will be trained on things like menu digitisation, basic hygiene, pricing of products, etc.

Mohit Sardana, CEO of Zomato exchanged the MoU with Sanjay Kumar, Joint Secretary, MoHUA. Other Zomato and MoHUA officials were also present for the exchange.

State Mission Directors of DAY-NULM from Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab joined the meeting via video conferencing. Municipal commissioners of Nagpur, Ludhiana, Bhopal, Raipur, Patna, Vadodara were also virtually present for the exchange.

MoHUA started executing the PM SVANidhi Scheme on June 1, 2020. The aim is to provide reasonable working capital loans to street vendors who have been severely affected by the COVID-19 lockdown. As of now, the ministry has received over 36.40 loan applications under PM SVANidhi scheme. Over 18.80 lakh loans have been sanctioned while over 14.04 lakh loans have already been disbursed.
