Inauguration of Business Conclave Sessions was held at IUFOST 2018. The 19th IUFoST World Food Science and Technology Congress is a 5 days action packed super bowl of programmes that brings together researchers, academicians, professionals, policy makers and the food scientists and industries fraternity to cover the latest advances of food in all its manifestations like food safety, food security, regulations, innovations in food processing, hygienic design and engineering, frontier areas in food science & technology, novel food products, markets and consumer preferences and much more of the latest of cutting edge technologies in each sector.

The business conclave sessions are being organized with an aim to bring academia and industry together.  The sessions are being organized in association with ICT University, Matunga and other organizations such as IDA, AFST(I).

Apart from poster sessions, presentations by young scientists, food expo and plenary talks and distinguished lectures that being held, inauguration of business conclave session was also done today.

Beginning with an address by Dr. V. Prakash, Chairman, IUFoST, World Congress, India who highlighted the role an industry plays in taking forward the researches made by scientists in front of an august audience, the event then moved on to an address by Dr. Pingfan Rao, Past President, IUFoST and Zhejiang Gongshang University, China who talked about more for less and various other aspects.

Dr. P.G. Rao, Chairman, Scientific Committee, IUFoST World Congress, India talked about the need for commercialization and the focus on academia and industry collaboration. Dr. Zhou Guanghong, Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology, China emphasized on the similarities between India and China food and food industry.

Mr. Anand Chordia, Chairman, Food Processing Committee, MCCIA Pune talked about the platform provided by IUFOST to meet food scientists and people from food industry together. Talking about the food park in Pune entitled ‘Waste to Wealth,’ he mentioned that he has created the food park in Pune focused on Waste to Wealth and Waste to Health. He emphasized on the need to focus on agricultural part and efforts required to bring agro and food industries and food institutes together. Talking about the future, he said that the future looks more competitive for India.

Prof. G.D. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, ICT and Member NOC, India talked about the rich legacy of ICT and thanked everybody for giving a platform like IUFOST to ICT. He talked about the ancient practice of purifying vessels, food and food ingredients before eating. Mr. Ravi Boratkar, Vice President, Maharashtra Economic Development Council, Mumbai thanked all the dignitaries and said that entrepreneurs and academicians to come together and hoped for farmers playing a bigger role. He thanked IUFOST organizers for bringing an event like this to India.

The first session today entitled Waste to Wealth in association with ICT is chaired by G.D. Yadav, ICT, Mumbai. The second session entitled Start-Up and Entrepreneurship is convened by Nilesh Lele, AFST(I), Mumbai Chapter, India and Naaznin Husein, IDA Mumbai Chapter, India. Sessions on R&D labs, food testing labs and analysis and Food Ingredients- Way Forward for Nutrition and Nutraceuticals are going to be held tomorrow.

A lot more lies ahead in the coming days since the congress is loaded with nearly 1000 abstracts, 66 scientific sessions well integrated with over 270 invited talks from leading exoerts globally.
