He is the first one from the institute to be named as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Dr. G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, Scientist-F and Head, Division of Biochemistry, National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) has been selected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), London, UK, in recognition of his significant research contributions in the area of Nutritional Biochemistry.
He is the first one from the institute to be named as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is the largest organization for advancing the chemical sciences.
Dr Reddy’s research, published in more than 170 publications, focuses on nutritional biochemistry of age-related diseases with particular emphasis on micronutrients and functional foods. His pioneering work on involvement protein glycation and aldo-keto reductases under chronic hyperglycemia, paved the way for exploring novel molecules from
functional foods as aldose reductase inhibitors and antiglycating agents for combating diabetic complications.
Dr. Reddy has provided new insights into the structure, function and expression of small heat shock proteins under hyperglycemic conditions and their modulation by nutritional factors. His studies using both human cohorts and animal models revealed a role for micronutrients in the development of diabetic complications. He reported the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies, identified the factors associated with adequacy of micronutrient intakes in adult population. He has won several awards and fellowships of national academies earlier.
