FSSAI introduces Food Safety Mitra scheme

This new scheme will open opportunities in the areas of online licensing and registration of food businesses, food safety training and hygiene auditing

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced scheme of Food Safety Mitra (FSM) through which it plans to engage motivated indivduals with the food safety ecosystem at ground level.

A FSM is an individual professional certified by FSSAI who assists in compliances related to FSS Act, Rules & Regulations with three avatars- Digital Mitra, Trainer Mitra and Hygiene Mitra depending upon their respective roles and responsibilities.

This new scheme will open opportunities in the areas of online licensing and registration of food businesses, food safety training and hygiene auditing, mainly focused on small and medium scale food businesses.

Further, to kickstart the scheme, the assistance of the Network of Professionals of Food and Nutrition in India (NetPro.FAN) chapters of the respective states may also be taken.

At the initial stage, the training and assessment for the said scheme to the individuals will be provided by FSSAI through its regional offices so that the scheme is implemented in an effective manner while promoting its awareness amongst the public.
