Centre ensures adequate arrangements for paddy procurement in Punjab
The Indian Dietetic Association, a group of like-minded nutritionists, dietitians and workers in the allied health fields will be hosting its 46th Annual National Conference – IDACON2013 in December 2013 at Pune. The theme of the three day conference starting from December 12 will be on “New Paradigms in Nutrition Practice and Research”.
The conference will witness a gathering of over 1200 delegates representing diverse domains including dieticians, clinicians, academicians, paramedics and industrial fraternity from all over the country. The program includes plenary lectures, symposia oral and poster presentations for various awards on a spectrum of topics relevant to conference theme.
The Association, celebrating 50 years, was established as a scientific body to highlight the importance of dietetics and nutrition in the maintenance of health, and in the prevention and treatment of diseases with Kolkata as its headquarters. Prof. Kalyan Bagchi became the first Secretary and Dr C. Gopalan as President of the association. The association was affiliated to the International congress of Dietetics in 1975.
Immediately after its launch IDA started its own scientific journal in 1963. It was named the “Journal of the Indian Dietetic Association”. The inaugural issue came out in December 1963 coinciding with the first Annual Convention of the Association. It was re-christened as “Applied Nutrition” in 1973. There are two issues which are published every year. The journal has been renamed as “Journal of the Indian Dietetic Association” (JIDA) in 2003.
Currently IDA with 20 chapters spread across India has over 700 registered dietitians as its members from all across the country.
