Frutarom Switzerland Ltd., BU Health, together with Aquanova AG, Germany, has announced results of a recently published human study examining the bioavailability of curcumin through three different systems for oral administration. The results indicate superior bioavailability of Curcumin Micelar.
Curcumin, recognized as the most biologically active compound found in turmeric root (Curcuma longa), has a wide variety of health benefits. The key to taking advantage of these benefits is to improve its limited absorption in the body.Typically, the low systemic bioavailability of curcumin, which is lipophilic, is attributed to low solubility in the aqueous part of the digestive tract and rapid metabolism and excretion from the body.
In recent years, new forms have proliferated administration have tried to proclaim a potential to improve their management and retention. The study “Oral bioavailability of curcumin from micronized powder and liquid is Significantly Increased micelles in healthy humans and Differs Between sexes”, provides very reliable data which demonstrate an improvement in systemic absorption and sustained circulating.
Micellar NovaSol curcumin compared to both native curcumin as micronized curcumin. “Figures are exciting,” said Jan Frank, professor at the Institute of Biological Chemistry and Nutritional Sciences, University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany and principal investigator of the study recently published. “The AUC (area under the curve of the plasma concentration / time, which is used as a standard to measure the bioavailability of a compound) makes curcumin NovaSol micellar far above other forms of administration. This provides significant opportunities to maximize use of the properties of curcumin. “
Based on comparisons of the AUC of plasma, the numbers show a 185-fold higher AUC, conclusively demonstrating the superior bioavailability of curcumin micellar compared with native curcumin. Therefore, a simple small dose is bioavailable curcumin NovaSol equivalent to higher doses and multiple grams of a standard extract.
Currently, they are conducting other studies in the laboratories of Professor Frank, including an exploration of the differences in plasma concentration between men and women, and the bio-efficiency of micellar curcumin.
