B.G. Bairy, Managing Director of Bayir Group, was recently honored with the Aryabhata International Award in recognition of his exceptional contribution towards the life sciences industry. The 40th Aryabhata International Awards were held on August 9 in Bangalore.

Bairy began his career selling basic chemicals. He envisioned the need for natural ingredients from his interactions with the nutraceutical market and started to focus on botanical extracts and marine ingredients. He built what is now India’s largest producer of Glucosamine, a key ingredient for joint supplements. As of 2015, Bayir Group holds 28 Drug Master File approvals across the globe for its use as a pharmaceutical API. The company has grown to over Rs 100 crore in revenue with nine manufacturing sites. The group has diversified in areas like Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical and Biotechnology. “My ambition and lifelong goal is to bring natural well-being at an affordable cost to all,” Bairy says.

A chemist by education, Bairy takes an active role in the business and R&D operations of the company. During the last few years, Bairy has focused on the formulations market, and has developed over 450 off-the-shelf products that are sold worldwide as Bayir’s own brand Sneha Natura or private labeled for international marketing companies.

The Aryabhata organization bestows the awards to noted achievers for their outstanding contributions to and accomplishments in their respective fields of expertise. This year’s recipients included individuals from the UK, USA, Malaysia, Baharain, Dubai, Sri Lanka and India.

Aryabhata Cultural Organisation was launched in 1975, in honor of the inception of the first Indian indigenous artificial satellite “Aryabhata.” It instituted an award in memory of Aryabhata — the renowned astronomer, mathematician and also the name of the first Indian satellite — to recognize the achievers of India and abroad across the fields of science, law, arts, literature, music, dance, film, media, theatre and education.
